Living an Authentic Life: Day 2: Redefining Your Values

Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you do life. They determine things like your decision making process, your relationships, and your priorities. So, in other words, when the things you think, say, and do match up with your values, there is balance and life is, for the most part, good. When they do not match up with your values, however, there is an imbalance and things, therefore, feel wrong. It's important to know your values so your life does not strip you of happiness, but make your heart full of it instead.

When defining your values, you learn what is most important to and for your life. I want to encourage you to take some time today to reflect on what it is you believe to be the values of most importance for your life. Here's how you can do it:

1.) Stop and take time out to think. What makes you happy? What makes you sad? What do you believe in? How does this affect the way you live?

2.) Think about the way you do life. Do your thoughts, words, and actions represent who you are and what you believe? If not, why? Discover the root of the problem and eliminate it so that you are simply you, inside and out.

3.) Compare the values you have with the values of your Creator. We were created in the image of God and because of that, everything we think, say, and do should reflect an arrow that points everyone around us to the Higher Power above us. Being created in God's image is an incredible gift that we'll never lose. Our gift to God is how we reflect His image to the world. And let me tell you, it has absolutely nothing to do with the things of which the world says we should value. Success, wealth, and fame are all things that will distract us from evangelizing, experiencing the richness of God's blessings upon us, and making His name known.

4.) Once you have decided which values reflect who you are and Who you belong to, start implementing your values into your life. The real challenge here is to not only implement them in the places that are comfortable, but to implement them in literally every aspect of your life.
