{"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." -Matthew 22:37}

For all of us preparing ourselves to be in relationships, or for those of us who are already in relationships, I would like to acknowledge an issue that we should all be very cautious of. This issue revolves around idolizing our significant other. If you fall hard and fast, this is undoubtedly a red flag to steer your heart clear of. As much as you may love someone, you must not idolize them. When we love our significant other more than we love God, we hold unsurpassable expectations to them, and that's not fair. We must not simply acknowledge that God loves and cares us more than anyone ever could. We must also believe it and hold our love for Him above all things; every family member, every friend, and our significant other.

Marriage is not possible without the Lord. He is the strength, shield, and foundation of it. If we cherish our love for our significant other more than our love for and time devoted to our Heavenly Father, we are building a foundation that will break in no time. Your significant other is not your identity, or completely responsible for your happiness. Nor is he flawless by any means. If you put your happiness, expectations, and faith completely into your significant other instead of Jesus Christ, you will only find yourself to be disappointed. God alone deserves your worship, praise, adoration, giving, devotion and sacrifice. He will not share His glory with another. Ladies, we have to constantly guard our hearts against putting things above God. This means checking our true motives throughout each and every day for the rest of our lives. We can make almost anything- even things that are gifts from God - into idols. Be careful, and ALWAYS put God first.
