We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. As a fair exchange—I speak as to my children—open wide your hearts also. -2 Cor 6:11-13

I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way. I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively!

When I started following Jesus, I thought it meant life would be boring. I also thought I got to live a comfortable life where everything that was broken before Jesus would suddenly be perfect.

Nothing about following Jesus should be boring. Or comfortable.

Everywhere in scripture, Jesus does things against the grain. He never does what would be expected of Him as the Son of God. He used the "wrong" people to further the kingdom, and sat with the outsiders. He didn't follow the Pharisee's rules, and He certainly never lived a comfortable, boring existence during His ministry. So why would we expect life to be boring or comfortable when following Jesus?

The only thing making us live small, fenced-in, boring lives is ourselves.

We aren’t called to live in the confines of the little world we’ve made for ourselves. Following Jesus is not about fencing you into a neat little box where you go to church, do "church" things, and live life like you did before knowing Him. It is about fully living in the bold life Jesus has offered us.

God has called us into this wide open, bold, brave life- there is nothing small or boring about what God has called us to.

He is calling us into so much more than we could ever think of imagine. All we have to do is open ourselves up and say, "Here am I, Lord. Send me!" (Isaiah 6:8)

May we be stop living the fenced-in, boring lives we've created for ourselves, and open our lives up to Him to living bold and large. He wants so much more for us than the small fenced-in lives we've created for ourselves.

Life with Jesus will never be boring if we open ourselves up to what He has in store.

You are a child of God. Your living small doesn't serve the world.
