Last week, hearing of Charleston, my heart felt heavy. I find myself becoming more distraught in the things I hear about and see on the news. I feel very strongly this is a timely word.

We all desire a change for the world we live in. We even had a widespread motto, "Yes we can." But the truth of the matter is, "We can't, but He can." I cannot stop evil. I do not have the power to show soldiers where the terrorists live. I have no control over what happens to our children. We need to face the facts and stop burying our heads in the sand. This country we live in is becoming darker and darker. Places of worship are now being intruded by the powers of darkness. What can we do? What can change this? What if we pray? I don't mean say, "God, please do this. Do that." I mean, on our knees, laying on the floor, and praying until we have no more strength to stop.

Prayer has the power to create change. Prayer has the power to keep our freedom. Prayer has the power to heal bodies and minds. Prayer has the power to find the criminals and bring them to justice. Prayer can mend the hearts of the abused and addicted. To free the oppressed and the depressed. Prayer can bring the prodigal sons and daughters home. Prayer is asking God to literally stretch His hand over every situation. Imagine what our world would be like with prayer. The government might be stopped from redefining marriage and family. People might find their true indenties. The Holy Spirit might show up in boundless waves.

I have such a prayer. I feel that if we all united, we would be taking a stand together. We would be standing against the forces that try to take over.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. -2 Chronicles 7:14

We need a healing in our land. We need forgiveness. Too much blood has been shed from aborted babies. Too much violence has created a fear that makes us leery in leaving our houses. Too much corruption is in control. Guns are being placed in the wrong hands. People are making their own laws and carrying them out their own way. We can take it back with the power of prayer.

This nation is under God and will always be under God, no matter what anyone says. But if we take Him out of our schools, out of our homes, and out of our churches, He might lift His hand of protection and let things happen as they may.

Prayer can change the heart of God. Prayer can change the hearts of the wicked. Prayer can start a shifting of present and future events that will occur. Prayer is bigger than we even know it to be. Let us put it to good use.

Father, I ask you to move the hearts of men, women, and children to seek you more than ever before. Help us to think beyond ourselves and see the bigger picture. That when we focus on your heart, we will see the need for you to get a hold of other's hearts. We are hurt, dying, and afraid, Lord. Show us that it does not end here. But it starts here and now. Open up our eyes and give us new understanding on what needs to be done. Show us how to move your hand on our land. Amen.
