Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.” Who else grew up singing this song in Sunday School?

Look around your office, your school, your neighborhood, even in your own mirror. The Savior of the world bled and died and gave up His spirit for every single man, woman, and child you see. Each one fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God Himself.

C.S. Lewis said, “There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. It is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit.”

That person you have a major issue with? An immortal. That person whom you desperately want to notice you? Immortal. Your crazy family? All of them, immortals.

How much different is our response to one another and ourselves when we try to see the way God sees, value what He values, and love the way He first loved us?

Today, let us use Psalm 139 as inspiration for our prayer:

O Eternal One, You have explored my heart and know exactly who I am; It is the most amazing feeling to know how deeply You know me, inside and out; the realization of it is so great that I cannot comprehend it.

In response, I offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; Your works are wonderful. May I recognize this Creation stamp in the other people I meet, knowing they are also expressly made and loved by You.

Explore me, O God, and know the real me.  With Your Spirit, root out anything that is undesirable and replace it with Your love and Your grace as I seek to be more like You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
