Being a people pleaser is exhausting. I should know, I'm a professional. It comes so naturally. Too naturally really. I used to think that people pleasing was a good thing, that it made me a really selfless person. This couldn't be further from the truth.

People pleasing is sinful. I should not please people. I should please God.

At the core of our faith, we are called to be like Christ. So look to Christ and what do you see? I see a man who went against the current at every chance he got. He fought the status quo and stood up for what was right, even in the midst of opposition from the Pharisees.Christ was concerned with what was right in His Father’s eyes, not what was right in the eyes of flawed people.

So, as a daughter of our Holy God, I have to battle my people pleasing habits. I have to focus my eyes on the one who matters most, and follow his leading no matter what. This means I must become comfortable with being uncomfortable. I must please God, not man. As Colossians 3:23-24 states, we must “... work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

So today, I am striving to work for the Lord, and not for mere men. I challenge you to look at your life and focus on what you should be working on for the Lord, regardless of what your friends and family might think.
