For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; you works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body… (Psalm 139: 13-16a)

Our sense of worthiness comes from this very fact: we are known and loved by the God of the universe. Could you for a moment relish in this with me? You, not just the whole world, you are crafted by God. Your thoughts are laid bare before Him as though they were written in bubbles over your head, your story and all its intricacy; all that you are, known, and yet He loves you. The sort of love He has for you is deeply informed and deliberate.

There is something quite vital about realizing how much God loves and cherishes you. His affection for you is not determined by who your family is, what sort of future you have before you, what you look like or what you have. We live in a culture that places a lot of value on physical things – what a person looks like, what sort of clothes they wear, how they portray their lives on social media, the list is unfortunately very long. It’s incredibly tempting to gauge our lives by these standard as well but dear sisters, please do not. When we begin to live a life of adding on whatever is trending to feel loved, accepted or seen, we may miss the opportunity to find out what God is trying to do in us and around us. Our minds are so ensnared by trying to replicate what’s cool that we miss out of digging deeper into our own story and how God longs to use us in the place we are now, whether it looks cool or not.

In understanding, through the Spirit of God, that we are deeply loved and known our perspective is grounded and not easily swayed. So when that magazine cover subtly tells you if you were thinner, more fit, or wore the “right” cloths then you’ll be seen and loved, may God’s truth remind you that you are always seen, always known and always loved by your Heavenly Father.
