There is no rest for the weary. Time doesn’t stop. We keep working, serving, and loving. But, God needs to get our attention. He brings us to a place, familiar only in memory, a place we don’t go as often as we should. It’s a place with just God and us. There’s nothing to do on our normal schedule, no one else to turn to, nothing we can bring to this place but ourselves. Most of the time we have to be brought because we don’t realize we need to be there or we fight to not go there.

The Wilderness.

Ring a bell? God meets us here when there is something He needs our undivided attention to tell us. He brings us here to teach us, prepare us for the next leg of the journey, or simply just to spend precious, loving time with us. After all, we are His.

At this day in age, no one has time for that. Many times, we don’t even realize we are there! My encouragement to you is; if you are there, enjoy it. Soak it in. Our Creator has invited us to His table. He’s invited us to spend one-on-one time with us! He loves us enough to rescue us from the chaos of life to talk to us about life and renew our relationship with him. That is so special!

I’m left in wonder thinking that the God of the Universe invites us to sit at His feet and soak in His every word. I’m left in even more awe that He even wants to listen to us! The image that comes to my mind is the picture of Mary and Martha. Martha is too busy to recognize that the Son of God is sitting in her home. She even asks Jesus to tell Mary to help her! All while Mary is wide-eyed sitting at his feet clinging to every word. In a Martha driven world, I want to strive to be more like Mary giving God my undivided attention.

The Wilderness is a time that God reminds us Whose we are. I’m slowly coming to the realization of just how bad God always wants me to know this. I’m consumed by the world every single day. God has brought me to a place to remind me that I am His, only His. He deserves sacred time in my life.

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you. Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you –Isaiah 43:1-4.

We are the Lord’s. The One that can keeps us safe from anything; the One who will walk with us all the way; the One that has called us by nam  and loves us endlessly has called us to spend time with Him.

Please say yes, deny yourself, and be reminded to Whom you belong.
