We are so weak. We love control. Deep in our hearts, we are so fiercely independent. Sometimes I feel like the world knows my every fear, worry, desire, and sin. And when those circumstances show their ugly face, the world just grabs me and drags me through the muck and mire. It engulfs me with its trouble, sorrow, and brokenness. The fight is exhausting.

It’s a different circumstance for all of us, but it’s the same feeling. We feel weak, and we desperately start clawing for something, anything. We let the sorrow, loneliness, hurt, worry, anger, and fear take over our hearts like black clouds on a stormy afternoon. In those moments, I find myself so forgetful of the One that can bring pure joy.

We want to be in control, we want to stop the pain, we want to get the glory, and we want to figure it out on our own.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he gives strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary and young men shall fall exhausted, but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. -Isaiah 40:28-31

We are so weak. It’s time we lay the burden down at His feet and soar higher than we have before. With His strength, walls will crumble, praises will ring, hearts will open wide, and beauty will rise from the ashes.
