I've recently had some amazing fellowship with some very good friends. I shared my heart with them, and they shared their heart with me. It blesses me because I understand the value of spending quality time with people I admire, love and respect, and in order to maintain such companionship, I choose to invest my time and energy to maintain a strong connection.

These are truly wonderful encounters, but as I break bread with my sisters in Christ I'm reminded that even the best conversations can't compare to being in communion with God. I am convicted by the realization that while I'm busy scheduling activities to feed my flesh, I often fall short off giving Him my all, leaving my spirit man thirsting for more.

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
-James‬ ‭4:8‬a (ESV‬‬)

My flesh wants to buck against such time with the Lord, even though my soul is nourished with every encounter I have with Him. It's easier for me to plan a lunch date (even if it means rearranging my entire schedule), than it is for me to stop whatever show I'm watching to read my Bible. It’s easier for me to pick up the phone to call a friend (or 2) when I'm faced with adversity, rather than going to the Father in prayer. It's far too easy for me to put Jesus on the back burner.

Enjoy your coffee dates and girls night out. Enjoy them, grow with one another, and allow iron to sharpen iron, but in all of this, let nothing replace your intimate bond with our Savior. God wants to hear from you too, and you can always trust that the outcome will be worth the effort you put in to the relationship you have with Him.
