There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. -1 John 4:18 (NIV)

Last Sunday my preacher said, "If perfect love drives out fear, then the opposite is also true... Perfect fear drives out love." This got me thinking about how many times I don't show love to others - or even myself - because of fear.

The world is a scary place, so why should I love strangers?
Past relationships have left me broken, so why should I take the chance of loving someone?
Friends have betrayed me, so why should I forgive the ones that have and extend friendship to new people?

The one I struggle with most though is how can God love me when I make mistakes every single day?

This is no way to live. Love is one of the world's most powerful forces, but we have to live with love.

Even though I may be scared, I need to approach the world, people, and new experiences with love and an open heart.

Most of all, I must remember that God will continue to love me in spite of my mistakes.

A life lived in love is much better than a life lived in fear.
