When I was younger, my church always did a live Nativity with the kids. Of course, nearly every girl wanted to be Mary because she’s the female star of the Christmas story. Because of her goodness and pure heart, she is someone to aspire to. Plus, she’s the mother of Jesus.

There are many people involved in the Christmas story though, and while Mary does play an important role, that doesn’t mean others don’t. The story could have been drastically different even if just one person or thing was different.

Just as the body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body – whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but many. -
1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (NIV)

It’s easy to get caught up in not being “Mary.” You may feel you aren’t good enough or you’re not important enough to be in God’s story.
God’s story has multiple characters though and you are one of them. You may not be Mary, but you are still important to God and to the world.
