…the joy of the LORD is your strength. - Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV)

The bubbles of our cheer, the buoyant air of delight, the octaves of happy that we can no longer keep inside. Like some make a hobby of people-watching, collecting random dismissive moments of everyday life, I collect laughter, stealing strangers’ tenors and tones for my own secret joy. I especially love the raucous and wild and real ones - because that’s how you know someone knows they belong.

Joy is the evidence of belonging.

Daughter born of the delight of your Father – rejoice in the crown given by the King who bore all your sorrows and wipes all your tears. Crown of beauty, glory, splendor, life… and joy. Collecting His laugh will be the most precious moment of my life. Finally, the tangible hearing of His laughter over me… His joy in me is my strength. My joy in Him is evidence that I know I belong in His arms.
Sing it to the world this season – Joy! The Lord is come! Receive your King who has received, redeemed and reveled in you. You were the joy set before Him worth enduring the cross. Live like you believe it – laugh like you belong.

When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy… - Psalm 126:1-2 (NIV)
