Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. – Psalm 90:12 (NIV)

Life passes swiftly, a brush of wings, a blade of grass – a whisper barely off our lips, then it’s gone… we feel our days fly right out from beneath our feet – but have we numbered them? Have we realized they are life unfolding? Have we laid hold of the days and tallied their sum - in all their routine and mundane and busy and brilliant miraculous?

In the sweeping grace that is life, I can remember a season of feeling I was falling between the cracks. No one to take note of my days and my tears and my fears and my peculiarities. No one collecting my thoughts and dreams with me. And I settled in the deep with the dust and my own insignificance… marionette-ing my way through a life I wasn’t truly living. Dreaming of my maybe somedays.

All the while, minutes and moments and miracles were just gushing through my hands.
Paralyzed by knowing life matters – but feeling mine didn’t.

But Acts tells us that God appointed the precise times and places for every man. For the sole purpose of seeking Him, feeling Him out, and finding Him – so very near. Finding Him intimately taking note of our days, our tears and fears and dreams.

For in Him we live
and move
and are…

And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this? -Esther 4:14 (ESV)

Who knows? God does, I do – you are not falling between the cracks –
quite the opposite actually.

For such a time as this, God appointed you to live – each and every moment in Him, numbering them as precious and without recurrence; move – knowing that the days are short; be – simply because He found your heart precious and delightful enough to create you… for such a time as this.
