My heart has been hurting this past month – not for myself, but for the struggles I have seen others facing.

A friend lost a beloved pet.

An acquaintance lost her husband of only two years to cancer.

A beloved principle in the city I live was killed in a bus accident.

Megan opened up in her devotional the other day about waiting to hear the status of her dad’s health.

Even though I don’t not know all of these people well, my heart still aches for what they are going through.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28 (NIV)

It’s easy to cry out to God and ask, “How are the struggles of this person who believes so wholeheartedly in you good?” Following God doesn’t mean your life is automatically sunshine all the time – I think we can all agree on this! What it does mean is believing that the good will eventually appear. It may be a different good than you imagined, but eventually the good will overcome the struggles.

So for now I will soothe my aching heart by continuing to pray for those facing struggles and believing in God and his good.
