Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?”- Luke 8:24-25 (ESV)

Jesus’ disciples were traveling with Him across the lake. The lake was calm and still as Jesus drifted to sleep, but then….a storm hit. The disciples feared for their very lives. They had clearly forgotten who was with them on the boat. They were in the very presence of the Creator. They ran to Jesus. They cried out to Him in fear of losing their lives. He responded simply by asking them “Where is your faith?” It is as if Jesus was saying, “Have you forgotten who I am? There is no reason to fear.” We are Christ’s disciples as we travel through this world. Many times in life, all is calm, but then…a storm hits. Relational brokenness, financial fears, sickness, anger, hurt- we are faced with a storm and fear takes over- stealing our rest in the Lord. We forget who we follow.

We serve a King who brings reconciliation, a Lord who provides and a Great Physician who heals.
In the midst of the storm, remember the Master. Even the wind and the waves obey Him. Jesus will calm the storm. He will calm you in the midst of the storm. He will bring you through whatever you are facing and will give you rest.
