Lent has never been a season I’ve looked forward too. Yes, it’s tough to give something up, but that’s not why I haven’t welcomed it with open arms. To me, Lent always brought up feelings of despair, sadness and guilt. I know that the end of Lent – Easter – is a joyous time, but the days leading up to it seemed like a struggle.

This year though, my thoughts have changed. Yes, I could see Lent as a dark and depressing time where I feel guilty over what Jesus did for my sins. Or, I could be grateful and joyous for what He did along with being thankful to God for always having a bigger plan in mind.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment the brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. – Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

God takes the dark aspects of life and makes the good. He takes some of our ugliest burdens and makes them beautiful. This Lent season I’m going to focus on the joy and beauty instead of the dark and guilt.

You make beautiful things. You make beautiful things out of the dust. You make beautiful things. You make beautiful things out of us. -Gungor
