We are all like sponges. We absorb what surrounds us. When we are squeezed, whatever we have absorbed comes out.

Scripture clearly says, "Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks," (Luke 6:45b).

So, what pours from our hearts? Too often, when stressful moments come, my heart pours forth nasty water. Water that doesn't build others up. Water that is filled with pride and self-centeredness. Water that reveals what my heart is filled with.

Other times, when those same stressful moments come, my heart pours forth refreshing water. Water that is filled with grace. Water that heals and builds up. Water that is focused on being Jesus to a lost and dying world. Water that flows forth from the heart of our beautiful Savior.

My dear sisters, I ask you to pay attention to what pours out when life gets tough. Pay attention the next time someone hurts you with their words or cuts you off on the highway...how do you react? No doubt, your reaction will reveal what we have been pouring into our hearts.
May we dwell deep in the life-giving Fountain. May our cups runneth over, so that His love, grace and mercy rushes from the very depths of who we are!
