If you could have any superpower what would it be? Would you want to learn how to fly? Be invisible? Have super strength? Would you want to have the power to accept change?

Change is hard. We create the lives we want to live, and are understandably upset when it goes in another direction. We become people full of anxiety instead of hallelujahs when change occurs because we delight in what is comfortable and easy. This image of security and safety is an illusion, and at one time or another we have all realized this. It might have been the test results from the doctor, the marriage that fell apart, or a number one choice college that sent back a rejection letter.
Nothing turns out how we plan and it hurts, because change hurts.

Even in this mess of change and rejection, however, we still have hope

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. – 1 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

Jesus, our Savior, provides.
He rescues us with a redeeming love and gives us hope.
Of course, this hope never promises a comfortable and easy life.
It never promises only sunny days and it never promises that nothing will ever change.
But even during the changes and the rainy days, Jesus is always present. He makes the hard days worth it, because we share in His everlasting love.
Jesus just asks us to do one thing.

He asks us to be courageous

Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. -Joshua 1:9 (ESV)

We do not need to have a super power in order to accept change because we have Jesus! He, the One who provides eternal love, is the One who provides a way for us to accept anything that comes in this life because He is always with us.

We will never be perfect, but we can try to be courageous. Jesus will do the rest. {photo:@elissagram}
