In Ezekiel 37, Ezekiel steps into the valley of dry bones unafraid. God asks him, “Son of man, can these bones live?” The confidence as he answered, “O Sovereign Lord, you alone know,” is amazing. How does one have such faith to see the possibility of life where the stench of death and despair is all around?

I feel like lately I have been in a ‘valley of dry bones’ season where I have had to relinquish control, cease striving and start trusting. Have you ever had those moments where you literally spend every waking moment thinking about how you would love to take time off and have that long awaited rest? It was an endless cycle of sleep and wake, over and over again; indeed these bones had started looking too dry. I was fatigued and God called me to find rest for my soul and acknowledge Him as my haven. When we rest in Him, we can indeed call out to the dry, weak and tired bones and they shall come alive. Only by His strength.

The idea of helplessness and dependence does not settle well with our pride though. It is a large pill to swallow and may get stuck in our spiritual throats. However, Christ will only paint on a weak canvas, not a proud one. My spiritual maturity is in my awareness of how dependent I am on Him. So just like Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9- 10, I shall boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
