Two World Wars down and threatening conflicts among men and nations; but nothing can wage war against the peace of God that transcends all understanding. I can only imagine how it is to be in the middle of a war. Joshua is a character in my current Christian fiction read; a young man serving as a medic in the army during the World War 1. Not only does he struggle to keep his fellow soldiers alive upon injury but also, the musty smell of blood and grimacing pain all around is enough to suffocate his faith and let fear rule, making him a spiritually dead man on his feet. I wonder if that paints a picture of our lives as well.
Most times amidst explosions of emotions, blasts of anger, bullets of sharp insults fired at me, grenades of tribulation landing one after another, I witness the crumbling of my world that I strive to keep ‘oh so perfect’. At those moments, I cannot dare imagine that God still ‘holds the whole world in His hands’ as I faithfully sung in Sunday school. Yet He says I can still have peace at such times?Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the Lord, who has compassion on you. -Isaiah 54:10 (NIV)
How comforting! May the grace of God overshadow us through the chaos and trials we go through and the peace of Christ rule in our hearts.
