Daily Delight

Read your Bible, pray every day: if you want to grow. Remember this song? Such profound lyrics yet we repeatedly sung it as children at Sunday school with barely any understanding of what it entailed. Like newborn babies, we are to crave spiritual milk so that by it we may grow up in our salvation. Just as milk is vital for babies’ nutrition, we should live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

God’s word is flawless. It is sweeter than honey to the mouth and more precious than gold. It saves, teaches, rebukes, corrects and trains in righteousness. Thinking of my life’s priority list, is His word tops or is it tucked away and dusted off only on days I need encouragement? Does a soldier really walk around without his armor? How then has the Sword of the Spirit been left to only those ‘diligent enough’ to memorize it; rather than being meditated on day and night and hidden in our hearts?
When the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind. Lord, help me then, to sink deeper into your perfect precepts. Oh what assurance we have: Heaven and earth may pass away but Your Word stands forever!

The unfolding of His Word gives light to all life situations; a lamp unto our feet and light for our path. It is then not coincidental but rather God-incidental that the longest chapter in the Bible is about the Word. May His Word interrupt us, rearrange us and redirect us.
