Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert" -Isaiah 43:18-19

God is doing a new thing, and I do not perceive it. But that is my own doing. I dwell too long in the way things are and they way they have always been.

I get so caught up in what is comfortable because it is what I have known, and it is all I can see, so it is all I can believe. My focus remains steadily on what has been, so I only half-hear what God has instructed to me, “Remember not the the former things, nor consider the things of old.”
And I say “Yes, yes. Sure, sure, God” while waving the words away like flies so I can continue concentrating on the former things. It is a wonder He doesn’t audibly yell my first, middle, and last name to get my attention and then ground me for not listening to Him.

He is a gracious God though, and instead of grounding me, He brought the rain today. With it, He told me that the past has been washed away. He is doing a new thing. Now it springs forth… and it is Spring season. Do not think God is above making a pun to get His point across!

As of now, I do not see how things are going to change. All I see are wilderness and desert, but God has my attention now. He says He will make a way and rivers in the desert. All I have to do is trust and believe in Him. And with His help, I can do that.

He is doing a new thing in you too. So, pay attention! Do not dwell in the way things were. Perceive it. He will make ways and rivers.
