My family has lived at the same place for almost over a decade now. I rarely even entertain the thought of moving out of here. No more familiar faces, new neighbors…new everything! Wow! It feels like my life would crumble in that whirlwind of confusion. More so, like any other goodbye; loved ones passing away or a friendship sizzling out through the changing life seasons, I would be crushed.

Hence why I would find it hard to sing this phrase at that point: Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters, wherever you would call me. ‘Wherever? Why can’t it be a familiar place? Or a familiar face at least?’ It is no new thing for Christ’s followers to meet with foggy skies in the way of duty, but He then shows Himself the more with grace for us. He clears the skies before us and is the solid rock on which we stand. The winds and water obey Him. In fact, they join in the ongoing hymn of praise creation sings to Him!

So during stormy seasons, such as death or in any other ‘goodbyes’, I will be still. No depths of sorrows are deeper than His love for me. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you. -Isaiah 43:2a (ESV)

My soul may embark into the dark uncharted waters, but His Word will be my light. I may have no compass, but His truth points me back North. He is the captain of this heaven-bound ship. Lord, steer the way in my life’s voyage.
