Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, by whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. John 4:13-14

I want to be someone who boldly proclaims the freedom the Lord has to offer.

I look at the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4 and the life-altering encounter she has at the well that day. Here she was, no doubt, feeling the weight of her past choices as she filled her water jar in the heat of the day. Alone. Outcast.

Little did she know, that she was about to be set free and have her world turned upside down. Jesus offers her the very thing she had been searching for in each of the relationships she had with those four me. What Jesus offered her was "living water" that would satisfy every thirst she had ever had. Unlike the men before, Jesus was the only One who could keep the promise of complete fulfillment.

I want to drink of that water. I crave that which can wholly fulfill the never ending thirst within me. Because far too often I have drank from wells that promised to fulfill and sustain me only to find they were like drinking sea water. Leaving my mouth dry and thirst far from quenched.

I look at the Samaritan woman and as Jesus tells her the truth she so desperately needed to hear, her response is convicting. The woman leaves her water jar behind and goes to town to share that she has found the Messiah. Because when you encounter freedom in Christ you can't help but share it. And because of her many people come to believe!

I want to be like that. I want to be someone who boldly proclaims the freedom the Lord has to offer. I want to run from person to person, offering up the secret that all our hearts so desperately long to hear. I want to claim the new life Christ has given and resolve to not go back to the way things used to be. Because there's nothing for me to go back to.

Sisters, may we leave behind the dry, empty wells of sin and taste, see, and share the overflowing waters of grace and love Christ has for us.
