Daily Delight

Did you know that the word "selah" translates as "stop and listen" or "stop and think on that." It's often too easy to busy myself to a point where the go-go-go of daily life drowns out the still small voice that sweetly reminds me how important it is to slow down, to stop, and to think. That voice that nudges me to enjoy the sound of the wind, a child laughing, a song I really love, or the sound of the loving Father telling me about the adventure He has planned for the day.

In a culture where it's celebrated and even sought after to be "busy", I find that it's hard to even place a high value on stopping and being still. It's almost as if there's a guilt that comes along with it. The guilt that so quickly brings up the lists of all the things that need to get done.

I imagine God knew that might happen and He planned ahead for us and found a way to remind us in the scripture: Selah (stop and think on that). It's usually found after a good piece of His truth, a sweet reminder to let His truth fill us, to let His word speak louder than the "busy" or the lists of things to get done. To stop and listen to what He says about us, and what He has for our day. I've found that it's in those gentle moments of selah where we gain our strength and vision for each and every day.

So, I'm learning. I'm learning to slow down, I'm learning to stop, and I'm learning to listen. I'm learning to let His truth speak louder. You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.
Selah

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. -Psalm 32:8-7
