There’s no voice I would rather listen to in my life than the voice of God. But there’s another voice that consistently battles for my attention: the voice of busyness. It’s subtle, but most deceiving things are. It'll urgently tug on my shoulder, insisting that I don't have the time. It'll tap its watch telling me there’s places to be and people to see. It’ll give me every excuse in the book for why I shouldn’t open God’s book (yet it’s strangely silent when I open up Facebook…) One thing I’ve learnt over the years is this: if I’m too busy to open up my bible, I’m too busy. Because what I value, I’ll make time for. Now that I have babies, I can rarely be spontaneous about surfing anymore. I have to actually plan ahead and set my alarm to wake up and go - I even have to pack the car the night before! Gone are the days when I can stumble out of bed and make a last minute decision to check the waves. I simply don’t have the time. But because I value surfing and the reward it brings me - I’m willing to carve out space in my life and do what it takes to get out in the water - because I’ve experienced the reward. I bet you set your alarm to get to work on time. I gotta ask - does spending time in the Word make it onto your calendar just as unquestionably? The truth is, the Word of God is filled with treasure waiting to be found - but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to dig for it! Digging for treasure actually requires our time. If we’re prepared to put time spent in the Word on our daily schedules like everything else we love, we’ll combat the Voice of Busyness when it comes whispering, and unearth incredible treasures that’ll last us a lifetime.

I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places. -Isaiah 45:3 (MSG)
