Sometimes I see someone else's life and quickly compare mine. It’s funny how fast it happens, the insensitive write off of my journey. My relationship with God is quickly dismissed by the longing for something someone else has. This is why comparison is scary, it leaves no room for truth because comparison is just our assumption rationalized into our own self-made truth.

It’s hard to not draw conclusions and bring them before God with a pointed finger.

The thing about God is He’s so unoffendable. He’s not worried about being blamed for things that have nothing do with Him, and He’s faithful to show us the truth. When this happens in my life and I march up to God, my hands full of assumptions and comparisons. He hears me, understands, then He levels with me.

For now, we can only see a dim and blurry picture of things, as when we stare into polished metal. I realize that everything I know is only part of the big picture. But one day, when Jesus arrives, we will see clearly, face-to-face. In that day, I will fully know just as I have been wholly known by God. But now faith, hope, and love remain; these three virtues must characterize our lives. - 1 Cor 13:12-13 (Voice)

What we see now isn't the whole story and until Jesus returns our perception is limited. The truth is that we don’t know where others are in their story and we don’t know where we are in our own. We may be comparing our ‘in process moment’ to someone’s ‘breakthrough.’ Still God brings resolution with the part about faith, hope, and love and how they should characterize our lives. If we are faithful, then we know our stories are in process and there is more to come. If we are hopeful, we know that the best is still in store for us because we have a great Author. And if we love, there’s no need for comparison, because comparison is the fear that we’re going to miss something. When true love casts out fear, all we have left is to celebrate the stories God is writing through each and every one of us.
