Often when I open my Bible, I stumble across scripture I don't understand or it totally contradicts how I see Jesus. In a world where we're taught that knowledge equals power, it can leave me feeling vulnerable. But God is not embarrassed or sheepish about the uncomfortable stuff in the bible - so you shouldn't be either. When we come across passages that are awkward, confusing, uncomfortable, or contradicting, it is helpful to know that there is such a thing as faithful doubt. Doubt is a signal that should point you to the Source of the answer, much like pain is an uncomfortable signal in our body that moves us into action (to do something about it!) There is a difference between a sceptic and a cynic. A sceptic is someone who struggles to believe until there's an answer. A cynic is someone who won't believe even if there is. If you fall into category 1 - relax - that kind of "doubt" is what drives us into the knowledge of truth because it moves us to find out more. Jesus promises us that if we seek, we shall find!

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. - Matthew 7:7 (NLT)
