Guilt and unworthiness. They are the best of friends it seems. They are tied together and hung around my neck, pulling my head down. “Look down,” they say, “you are not enough.” They threaten to reveal my worsts to cover up my bests. They hurt, deeply. They can ruin you, if you let them.

Enter grace from stage left. You are enough, as it turns out. There is a grace-giving Savior who told you so. He thinks you are, so why don’t you? This grace, it is yours. Reach out and take it. Free yourself from the shame and guilt and unworthiness and dread and anxiety. You are courageous and strong, beautiful and unique. And no one can take that away from you.

Whatever you’re dealing with, whatever hangs around your neck, know that it is not you. It does not define nor outline you. It is a part of you, but you are so much more. You are gracefully, beautifully made and it is time for you to accept that. Guilt and unworthiness may be best friends, but they are not your friends. They won’t ruin you, for you are brave. And you have grace. Jesus says, “Here it is. Here I am. I am grace and you are mine.” Look up. This is grace. You have so much worth. I hope more than anything you can see that.

I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
-Psalm 139:14 (NASB)
