For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." -Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

I know that verse like I know the back of my hand. But I always thought about this verse in terms of the future. God has plans for me in the future. God wants to prosper me and not harm me, soon. God gives me hope for the next season of my life.

And thus I could not wait to get to the next season of my life. I wrote off my current season of life as if God was not really concerned about it or working in it. The next season of my life would be where God would work out the plans He had for me – not this season. As a result, I lived with my eyes down the road to someday.

There’s a problem, though. When we live waiting for someday, someday never comes. Because when the seasons change, our eyes will still be focused on the next better thing, that future filled with hope someday.

If you find yourself living with frustration and discontentment in your current season of life, let me speak some encouragement to you. If you have surrendered your life to God, you are right now living in the plans God has for you. Right where you are is right where God wants to use you and right where He wants to move in your life. The plans that God has for you are not waiting for your circumstances or season of life to change. Today is a part of the plan He wrote for you.

Today is filled with hope. Today is filled with God’s goodness. God is moving in your life today whether you can see it or not. Today is an integral part of your story.

So today, if you are more than ready for your circumstances to change, take a new grip on this promise of God and stand firm again on the hope of His Word. God knows the plans He has for you and He is working it out right now, right where you are. And it’s for your good, His glory, and it is filled with hope.
