Moments of rightful celebration from others have a funny way of bringing a megaphone and microscope to areas of lack, want, and pain in our personal lives.

We all have places of lack in our lives. The emptiness exposed by a desire unfulfilled is painful at times. Needs. Weaknesses. Physical healing. Finances. Endless job search. Singleness. Infertility. Miscarriage. Broken marriage. Loss of a loved one. Questions about the future. Dreams not yet realized. The list could go on.

For me, singleness has been my greatest place of lack. And God has used that unfulfilled desire to show me that He alone is enough and that He is doing good to me, here and now. What felt like the emptiness of singleness, was room to invite God in.

If we let Him, our perceived place of lack is open space for God to make Himself known and to do a work inside of us. The place of lack in our lives is the place where God invites us to wait on Him. It is the place that we get to really walk out faith and trust in our relationship with God. It’s here that we get to choose to believe that God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do. It’s here that we grow.

The greatest source of encouragement in my walk through singleness has been God’s promise to do good to me. Friend, God is doing good to you right in the midst of your place of lack. Take heart and rest in His goodness.

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord. -Psalm 27:13-14 NKJV
