Daily Delight

I watched a video a few weeks ago where a few worship leaders I highly respect were interviewed at a conference. One of the questions asked was "What does your devotional time look like?" A few of the leaders answered things you might expect to hear. Things like, "I wake up, get my coffee and sit on my back porch and read." I was following along and then one of the leaders spoke something that has resonated with me ever since.

She spoke of how she used to beat herself up because her devotional time didn't look like what she thought it should look like. (Welcome to the club, right?) She went on to say that one day she realized that she wasn't just a "nobody" coming to an "everything" that knew and had everything, but that God had showed her that she was a capital S "Somebody" coming to a capital S "Somebody" to live life together.

This information wasn't necessarily new to me, but this woman de-coded and put it into this language that spoke right to my heart. Her words reminded me of how God sees me as a capital S "Somebody" and, because of that, life as I know it must look differently.

We are children of God; co-heirs with Christ. We are chosen, set apart, and grafted into the Kingdom of God. We can never be separated, pushed back, not enough, or disqualified from living the life God always intended: the life of closeness, friendship, and intimacy with our Creator and Savior.

May each day bring us closer to Him who sees us as who we truly are, and may His reality become our eternal reality. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son. (Ephesians 1:4-6 MSG)
