Have you ever thought about it?

An idea so grandiose, so splendid, it would rank "too-good-to-be-true" on the ricter scale of earth-shattering ideas.

A thought so real it could change your internal (and external) world.

A realization so sacred you only dare to whisper.

Your best friend is holy.

He's walked a life similar to yours and mine; He has experienced hardship with a capital H; He is deeply acquainted with grief. He can tell you about the fullness of joy and unconditional love from beginning to end. Like you, He has been rejected and wanted and doubted and praised. He understands the ways of the world better than any of us, yet He has consistently chosen the better way, the higher road. He didn't complain about it, He doesn't regret it. He's completely, perfectly, utterly holy.

And He's y o u r friend.

I think it's safe to call that a fairly sobering thought.

What does it mean for him to be holy? What does it mean for me to be like Him?

My best friend will literally never do me wrong. He will remain consistent in His nature until the end of my days. His intentions are the purest. He is not confusing nor unclear: He will forever pursue friendship with me. I can count on Him for everything.

We hear you become more like the people you hang around. Jesus is always around - and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age, (Matthew 28:20). Could His holiness become my holiness? Could I truly be like Him?

1 Peter 1:15-16 says, But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.' Sometimes if I dwell upon His holiness I forget how close and how available He is, and if I focus on His nearness I forget how holy and powerful He is. Could choosing to anchor our hearts in His holiness and His nearness take our relationship to another level? Could we experience new depths of wonder and intimacy? Could we become more like Him in the pursuit of Holiness Himself? It sounds dreamy, but I think it's possible.
