"No peace: don’t move,” were the words I was told by my college small group leader. “Excuse me, but I am an independent woman that makes things happen. Why do I need to wait on peace?” my spirit said when I heard this. My mindset had always been to be a go-getter, to make my own open doors, and to move at my own pace. Eat, pray, slay, baby!

That mindset is an awesome American mindset, but sometimes it does not match up with the way God leads us. See, I was so used to being a leader that I had trouble letting God lead me. The way He leads, with peace and total understanding, went against how I led my life of constant striving and strategic planning. When choosing a next step, I only considered what made sense logically or felt like the right thing to do and was morally okay, but I never let peace be an arrow sign for me.

Looking back now, I see that God allowed me to choose career paths and relationships marked with anxiety. They were excruciatingly painful, but I had chosen them even with the Holy Spirit nudging me that they were not my "best yes." However, God in His infinite love has redeemed those choices by giving me new situations marked by His peace. In the deepest craters of my heart, I have known that the new situations were right because I had unmatched tranquility about them, a tranquility that only the Holy Spirit could provide.

My biggest takeaway from experiencing choices marked with peace and choices marked with anxiety is that peace is a real and attainable thing. It’s something that we should run after according to Psalm 34:14, Seek peace and pursue it. The world says that constant striving will get you to where you want to be, but the word of God says that letting Him be your shepherd is so much better. Instead of forcing doors this week, stroll down the pathway of peace. Abundant peace is yours through Jesus (John 14:27): embrace and delight in it this week!
