They’ll get a fresh start, as if nothing had ever happened. And why? Because I am their very own God, I’ll do what needs to be done for them…I’ve set them free—oh, how they’ll flourish! …every square foot of land will be marked by homecoming, (Zechariah 10:6-12, MSG). A friend of mine recently posted these verses in a caption on social media. I read them the other night, cozied up in bed, and I gasped. My brain paused, my heart leapt, and my spirit sighed with content. Oh!

God isn’t just into redemption (although that would be enough), He’s into utter restoration. He wants to turn the bitter into sweet, give us land to roam and room to flourish. He wants to bring us home.

I’m learning to pay attention to the gasp of my heart. What enchants me? What makes God irresistible? Could it be the deeply simple promise of home?

Home is an interesting concept. While there are people and places that offer an semblance of home to me, I have moments where I find myself reaching for an ethereal version and coming up empty. This can usher me into a spinning circle of frustration, sadness, loneliness. But if home is a Person, an eternal Person, are we ever truly home-less? If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him, (John 14:23, ESV). We have instant community with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They always desire our time.

I want to be the person running headlong into Home, caught up in everything He’s created for her. I want to receive the armful of flowers He picked, bask in the sun He hung, and twirl in the land He’s given freely.
