It was 2AM, and there I was waiting expectantly in line for a new iPhone 7 Plus. After many great conversations with my fellow waiters, 8AM finally rolled around. The moment we had hoped for was finally here. Shatteringly, the news we received left us all disappointed: there were no iPhone 7 Pluses here or anywhere nationwide. Apparently, we did not get the memo, otherwise we would not have sat there for half a day logically believing that, because we were the first in line, one of those bad boys would be ours. We were infuriated that we had wasted our time and were leaving empty handed.

How often do we experience moments like these in our lives? Moments where we have hoped so hard for a certain outcome only to find out that life has not dealt us the deck of cards we wanted so badly. Upset. Emotional. Confused. Why did we even set such high expectations in the first place? “We should have known better,” we have often thought.

So how do we cope with disappointment? We seek Yahweh’s face first. We adopt the mindset like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, where when they were thrown into the fire, their faith was unwavering that God was still good even if He did not show up and save them as they’d hoped. They were expectant that He would save them and knew He was powerful and able, but even if not, He was still an awesome God If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up, (Daniel 3:17-18). Even with a mindset like theirs, it is natural to feel the turmoil of disappointment when we’re not miraculously saved from the fiery furnace. That is when we have to remind our spirits to praise Him anyway (Psalm 42:11). Sisters, join me in believing that God is still good even when life takes frustrating, disappointing, and unexpected turns. Remind yourselves that He adores you, is for you, and is interested in every aspect of your life. You are His beloved in the thick and thin.
