I served in the Navy for 4 years and I was stationed on a ship slightly smaller than an aircraft carrier. These ships were designed to roll with the waves when we would be out to sea and bad weather would hit. People were not allowed to leave the interior of the ship during storms and we would seal all of the doors so the ship would not take on water. Sometimes the seas would rage and waves would come over the top of the ship, but it was designed to be sturdy and stay afloat. While inside you could feel the ship roll with the waves and you would learn how to time your steps so you wouldn't fall when you were walking through the halls, after all we still had work to do even when there was a storm.

God created us to be strong and sturdy, we are His image bearers so if He is not afraid of a storm, a trial, being persecuted, being rejected, we don't need to be afraid either. While out to sea we had no control over the weather and we couldn't stop a storm from coming and in this life we have no control over the storms we will face but we can have peace knowing Jesus has the power and authority to speak to our storms, and He will have the victory. He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him! (Mark 4:39-41)

If you read before these verses you'll see that Jesus didn't immediately get up when the storm began and his disciples freaked out! Sometimes we will walk through a storm longer then we want to but we don't need to freak out, we have to learn how to time our steps with the waves and keep moving forward even while the storm rages around us because we still have kingdom work to do. You see the storm can rage around us but it doesn't have to rage in us and render us powerless. Just like in the Navy, we found our refuge inside of the ship during a storm, we can find our refuge and strength in Jesus and trust we won't sink but we will still be standing when the storm ends.
