Shaking. Nervous. Scared. That's how I usually wake up if I have a new love interest in my life. I know it sounds crazy that I can speak in front of people with no problem but the thought of someone liking me and allowing me to be vulnerable makes me anxious. Honestly, I don't know why that is, and I have pleaded with God for Him to make me as cool as a cucumber when dating someone new.

Even though I have this fight or flight response in the flesh when dating, I have to remember that God's word is applicable even to this tiny detail of my life. It never ceases to amaze me that His word is so universal and so timeless.

Recently, God whispered this verse into my heart when I felt nervous about spending time with a guy I have an interest in: For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love, and self-control, (1 Timothy 1:7, BSB). It stopped me in my tracks. Not only did it speak to my fear, but it also reminded me that when embarking on a new relationship, I was already divinely enabled to have a relationship of courage, love, and self-control simply by allowing His word to edify me. He has given us power, and any voice of anxiety is not from God.

If you're like me, you might have these emotional responses that you wish would go away. Although that may not happen instantaneously, remember that God goes before us and is behind us, fighting for us every step of the way. So sisters, join me today in believing that God will trade out our anxiety for divine ability, like only He can do. We are already conquerors in Him; let's embrace it!
