Wedding vows are special. Sweet words shared between two people, committing to a lifetime together. The beauty is not in the words alone, but rather in the understanding that the words must translate into actions and intentionality. Vows promote a level of consistent love, in spite of the circumstances that might arise. When the road grows rocky and less than desirable, each person remembers the unfaltering promises that they made to one another. When we give our lives to Christ, we make a vow to love Him equally in all situations. What if we professed that level of commitment to Him, with our own set of vows? I would like to share some vows that we can turn into a personal prayer.

Dear Lord,

I thank You that You have always loved and accepted me. When the world thinks that I am unworthy and when I believe that I am unworthy, You always see my value. I thank You that we walk through life’s troubles together, because You never leave me or forsake me. I will share life’s burdens with You today, tomorrow and always.

I promise to love You, even when I do not like the direction my life is going in. I promise to obey You, even when I don’t understand. I take You as my Savior in the peaks and in the troughs. I will love You, equally, when I am weak and when I am strong.

I will seek You as I rejoice, and likewise, when I weep. I will remain loyal and faithful to You, even when I feel that You are silent. I cannot promise that I won’t grieve You. But I can promise that I will always find my way back into Your arms. When life sends me a storm, I will not be shaken.

So let us vow to be patient with one another. You are patient as I wander and become lost. And I vow to patient as You walk me through this life, holding on to Your promises.”

Today, I urge you to exchange vows with our Lord and never abandon them. Love Him and delight in Him during the good, the bad, and the ugly.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. -Proverbs 16:3
