All the rivers flow into the sea, but the sea never fills up. -Ecclesiastes 1:7, MSG

I draw in a breath as I discover a little piece of wonder amidst the boredom and restlessness. Ecclesiastes is filled with Solomon’s dissatisfaction, but even in midst of the smoke-and-dust rhetoric, there is a glimmering speck of awe.

All the rivers flow into the sea, but the sea never fills up.” I mean that is truly remarkable. A mystery in the mundane.

But isn’t that just like God? In the less-than-glamorous moments, in the downright stagnant seasons of life, He offers you something to ponder, to wonder about, to revel in. You might find it in a sunset. You might find it in a fleeting thought or the sincerity of a friend’s eyes. You might find it on a page in your bible. As long as you're looking, you'll find it.

I am currently in a season that is equally fulfilling and dissatisfying. I am tasting fresh opportunities I’ve dreamed about while remaining faithful to other commitments that aren’t quite as captivating. Because of this, I rejoice when I uncover hidden mysteries, the ones I’m certain He’s tucked away just for me. These discoveries remind me that He’s much bigger than any weariness, or discontent, or boredom. There is always more happening behind the scenes. And there will always be something brand new to unwrap and enjoy, no matter what time or season.

I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
-Psalm 27:13 (NASB)

Keep your eyes open to the awe and wonder of His goodness. I promise it’s there, if only a glimmer in the dust.
