That is precisely what we as a society are, right now. Distracted by the news. Distracted by the worried part of our brains that can’t fathom what the future holds. Distracted by the sentiments of folks on social media. Distracted by the earthly events that are beyond our control. Last week, I pondered the things that could be accomplished it we shifted our focus and our energy to our spiritual walks; if we used our time to manifest things that enhance our relationship with Christ. Take a moment to imagine the peace that we would have if we kept perspective of the fact that our inheritance is not in this faulty world, but in Heaven.

The enemy has a crafty way of making a catch out of our attention and reeling us in with a hyper-focus on worldly events. If only he can distract us with mindless scrolling on social media, hours of internalizing depressing news, and exasperating energy on arguing with folks who disagree with our views - he knows he can render us useless for the Kingdom of God. We allow him too much power in compromising our peace with these schemes of distraction. Every moment that we yield to distraction is a precious moment that could’ve been used for God’s glory.

As Believers, we need to be intentional about elevating beyond worldly disappointments. God’s Word provides all the reminders that we need to keep our eyes on the prize - Eternity. These moments of deep tribulation only last a little while in relation to eternity. Let us replace earthly distractions with spiritual dedication. Let’s put down our phones and pick up our Bibles. Let’s turn off the news, and read about God’s good news. Let’s stop contributing to hate and be ambassadors of love. Let’s combat our anxiety about a future we can’t control with fervent prayer about the things that we can.

And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.  -John 2:17
