I walk out of the orphanage into the pitch black night. My friend whispers to me, "Look up." I lift my eyes and almost simultaneously my jaw drops. My heart pounds. My body freezes. I am looking up at a sky that is more stars than it is darkness. The blackness is overcome with twinkling specks of light.

God said to Abraham: "Look up at the sky and count the stars – if indeed you can count them… so shall your offspring be," (Genesis 15:5). When God made that promise, Abraham was looking up at a sky like the one I saw in Zimbabwe. There was no air pollution and no street lights to conceal the vastness of stars. He saw the promise of God in its entire glory.

God has promises for us bigger than our wildest dreams. Some of them we can already see by simply reading His word. For example in 2 Corinthians 1:22 we can see that God ‘put His spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come’. Maybe you are waiting for God to reveal His plans and promises to you. Abraham had to wait till he was one-hundred years old to see God’s promise fulfilled. But be reassured – in Proverbs 25:2, ‘the glory of God will conceal a matter’. God will reveal things to us when it ensures His maximum glory and when we are at a place in our walk with God to truly understand what He is showing us.

We read in Luke that God ‘opened [the disciples] minds to understand’ (24:45) all of the prophesies only after Jesus had been resurrected because only then could they comprehend the enormousness of God’s plan.

God will reveal Himself and His plan to us on His clock – and when He does, His glory will shine like the stars.
