One of my favorite promises is found in Deuteronomy 31:6 where God promises His children that He will never leave us or forsake us. If you have ever been let down, rejected, or chosen over, then you know how much weight this promise holds. To be promised that God will never leave us is so encouraging because it absolutely tears us down when someone doesn’t want us. When our world starts falling apart, God is right there. When our heart is broken, God is mending the pieces back together. When someone we love is diagnosed with cancer, God is in the midst of it. When a family member leaves us, God remains with us.

He empathizes, because He has been there. He was rejected.

For me, it was my own father. If my own father didn’t want me then why would my Heavenly Father? If earthly fathers are supposed to be examples of our Heavenly Father, then I was just waiting for God to find someone better and leave. But He never did. He pursued my six-year-old, thirteen-year-old, and twenty-three year old broken heart. He rescued me from the lies of the enemy telling me that God will never want me. He cherished me. Even when I told him “no”, he kept pursuing me. His love is steadfast and never-ending.

I don’t know what kind of rejection you are walking through right now, but sister, God will always, always, always choose you. He won’t give up on you. He won’t lie to you. He won’t break his promises. He won’t leave you alone. When humans fail us, He will be right there waiting with arms wide open for you to run to him and cast all of your anxiety on Him. I encourage you today to forgive those who have forsaken you and dwell in the shelter of the Most High God because when the entire world forsakes us, our Father will remain. Even when we forsake Him, He is still there. Let’s stop basing our worth on people’s approval of us but let’s start basing it on the One who loves us more than we could ever imagine or comprehend.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.
–Isaiah 40:8.
