Water beats down on me. The shower is where I do my deepest thinking. When you’ve got three small boys, that’s a no-brainer.

The part of Christianity I struggle with the most is faith. I know the Bible is true, but there are so many times where I struggle with the fact that I can’t see Him.

What if the world is right? How is it possible that they have an explanation for everything? But, I remind myself, they don’t. They cannot explain miracles. And I asked God, "Where are my miracles?" The Holy Spirit taps me on the shoulder and says “You are the miracle.” And I’m staggered.

The fact that a degenerate, sin-filled creature that is in every way getting worse, aging, dying; that I can actually grow and progress and be renewed is a miracle. Anytime I doubt and feel my faith falter from now on, I’m going to remember this: that I could not possibly be who I am today, without having been changed from the inside by the Holy Spirit, and that is a miracle.

…Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
-2 Corinthians 4:16 (KJV)

…Put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him…
-Colossians 3:10 (KJV)

Another thing I do in the shower (ya'll are getting all my secrets today!) is crank up my speaker and listen to my music really loudly. Of course I also sing along. It was just after this conversation with the Spirit that Francesca Battistelli’s Motion of Mercy began to play, and I realized that because of His miracle in my heart I get to feel love, and be love to the world. By that time, whew! I was having a full-blown joyfest in the shower.

Out of my heart flowed a gratitude almost overpowering. I was grateful to the Father for such a beautiful gift; to my Jesus for making it possible; and to the Holy Spirit for changing me. And this all happened on Thanksgiving morning. To wrap it up, Jason Gray’s song Good to Be Alive played, and I agreed with him: “All I want is to give you a life well-lived, to say ‘Thank You.’”
