Rush, rush rush. The holidays can be so stressful. Schedules are off the charts busy. To-do lists are ever more miles long that normal (and normal is crazy enough). There are places to go, things to buy, family and friends to see, lots of food to cook/bake, presents to wrap, etc… and unfortunately what seems so little time to actually process the real meaning of the holiday season.

Sometimes we can get so wrapped up in our responsibilities, that we tend to lose sight of our priorities. Psalm 46:10 reminds us to “Be still and know God,” (NIV). Being still not only allows us to regain the right perspective, but also aligns our priorities back in order.

So many nights I go to bed with many things unchecked on my to-do list. Only to find myself in “to be continued” mode as soon as I awake...leaving out my time with the one that’s most important. Being a wife and mom are top priorities for me. But when I get so wrapped up in running crazy with what is necessary or required of me- I neglect the one relationship that allows me to be the best wife and mom that I can be; my relationship with Jesus.

When we be still and know God, even through the midst of chaotic seasons, it allows everything to fall into place and diminishes that feeling of inadequacy. Our relationship with our Lord and Savior keeps us in check. When we go to Him first, before the unchecked items on our to do list- we are allowing ourselves to communicate with the One that goes before us. The One that truly satisfies our inner being.

The One that brings about our true love, joy, peace and satisfaction (Galatians 5:22-23). The One that gives us rest (Exodus 33:14). The One that calms our anxieties (1 Peter 5:7).

You are my place of quiet retreat, I wait for your word to renew me. -Psalm 119:114

May we each be filled with all these things that only the Holy Spirit can provide us with, as we be still and know Him- even through all the midst of chaos.

Ashley Thrift≫ ≫ Ashley is a happy homemaker; a proud wife of her handsome and hard-working high-school sweetheart, and a very blessed mom of three amazing, crazy and energetic kiddos. In the good ole' southern upstate of SC, where Ashley is from, you will find her devoting herself to Jesus first, being a wife and mama second, and striving to be an overall woman of proverbs 31. When she is not running frantically off of coffee (chasing toddlers or carpooling; rushing to the the dance studio or ball fields), she is settled intimately in her Bible listening for the whispers of God. She also enjoys small group Bible studies with her mama friends, writing to serve God through her church writing team (NewSpring.cc) and her blog <www.p31shelaughs.com>, and still dating her husband even after seventeen years. She wears strength and dignity with laughter in her heart as she trusts God's faithfulness which has already assured her works all things to his glory (Proverbs 31:25). She knows that her story is being written by the one Almighty, and by His glory she tries to embrace what He is teaching her through each chapter- living on grace.
