A couple of years ago I went through one of my lowest points ever. I was criticized, condemned, rejected, and attacked by someone I love. I could not get out of bed, could not go to class, and constantly had the words they said ringing in my head. I felt unworthy, unloved, and undeserving.

While it was one of the hardest things for me to go through, God taught me so much.
I learned more about forgiveness than I ever had. He taught me that if I allow the bitterness and resentment to keep building up, I would eventually explode. He taught me to release the pain, sorrow, rejection, and give it all to Him. He has been there. He has experienced all of the feelings I experienced.

He taught me to turn to Him, even if all I could get out was “Jesus”. He taught me that He did not come and die on the cross and go through the ultimate persecution for me to harbor resentment.
He led me to this word of Christ from the Sermon on the Mount:

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
-Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV)

When we do not forgive, it is like standing face-to-face with Jesus and telling Him that what He did on the cross was not good enough for us. We are only harming ourselves when we choose to hold a grudge and we are standing in the way of redemption and grace.

Sisters, I urge you to forgive the person who has hurt you and tell them you love them, no matter how hard it is. We are on this earth for a fleeting second and harboring resentment can only do more harm than good.

Forgive others just as Christ has forgiven you.
