My 2 year-old son developed seizures. His first I was able to get under control by holding and talking to him. The second was in the ER; I rushed him to the door. Nurses tried every way to get medicine into him, poking him in all over because his veins were so small. I stood near and spoke to him, hoping he could hear me, sensing his fear. It was 15 minutes before they were able to get enough medicine into him to stop seizing, and 6 hours before he woke up. We often wondered afterwards, “If we hadn’t rushed him back there, where he was frightened, would he have been able to gain control, and listen to us?”

We often lose faith when we lose control. My son wasn’t the only one afraid. Was I losing my child? If he survived, would he come back changed? I’d thought I was doing well in my relationship with God, but realized how wrong I was in that moment. All I could do was wait, cry, and beg. Will we choose to draw near to Him in the restful times, so that we can have confidence in the trying ones? I love Isaiah’s words:

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee,” (Isaiah 26:3, KJV).

Will we choose to focus on Him, instead of circumstances, like Peter walking on water? Peace comes when I trust, even when I don’t have all of the answers, because I know He does.

Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love Him, because He first loved us,” (1 John 4:15-19, KJV).

Will you show Him your love, by believing Him when He tells you He’s taking care of you?

Choose Faith.
