  • After hearing what was being said behind my back, I could feel the anger growing within me. My entire being was becoming engulfed with rage. I was ready to respond, but I could hear a voice whisper ever so quietly,

A soft answer turneth away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger. -Proverbs 15:1 (KJV).

I do not like when people speak bad of me or disrespect me. I’m sure none of us do. Many times we want to take matters into our own hands. We want to defend our reputation, but in Proverbs 15 Solomon tells us, “A soft answer turneth away wrath.”

As I grow older in wisdom, I’m learning to turn the other cheek. Every action does not need a response. Why “stir up anger” with our words?

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. -Psalm 141:3 (KJV)

Psalm 142 is a great scripture to recite or pray with daily.

Before you even begin your day, ask God to go before you and help your spirit to remain calm in the midst of chaos and to block any unkind words to come from your mouth. Ask Him to help you to be gentle in your response.

What joy you will feel to be a peacemaker and to live peacefully among all people- even those who offend you.
