I have a hard time sharing my faith. I know that many people have a preconceived idea of Christianity, and I don’t like being the object of their prejudice. I like to be judged for truth; the good and the bad, at least it’s what I really am. But then, doesn’t God wish for the same? He has always suffered the greater injustice; even as God himself in Christ, he was misjudged. No- this is simply an excuse.

I recently did a topical study on boldness using my Thompson chain study Bible. I came to the conclusion by combining all of them that without deep, confident faith I cannot have boldness. Phrases like “in the full assurance of faith,” (Hebrews 10:22, KJV) and “by the faith of him (Jesus Christ),” (Ephesians 3:12, KJV) bear that out. So how do I get more faith, in order to have more boldness? “But the fruit of the Spirit is….faith…” (Galatians 5:22, KJV) It’s a fruit of the Spirit!

All I need to do to increase my faith and therefore my boldness, is more of God in me. So often we find substitutes for God’s word in our time. “I’ll just listen to some worship music in the car.” or “I’ll just pray during my lunch break.” It’s not His word. “I’ll just go over some of my favorite verses that I’ve memorized while I’m folding laundry.” Stop temporarily filling up on the fluff and get the meat. If you’re constantly licking the frosting off the muffin, and the ranch off the veggies, guess what? You’re not going to be healthy and you’ll more than likely get sick.

If you are not spending time in God’s word, you cannot be growing more like Christ and drawing closer to God. You’re just getting the hype that you need for the day, without establishing any lasting changes. It is the Holy Spirit using God’s Word who will grow you. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you," (John 14:26, KJV).
